YOU'RE THE ONE (Comedy | Music) [1 hour 23 minutes] In this 100% fictional film, in which not a single performer plays "Himself" nor "Herself" but the two lead performers use their own name as a character, a singer named Bonnie Baker (Bonnie Baker, with a strip-tease singing voice auditions for a job singing with orchestra of Luke Laramie (Albert Dekker)), but his taste runs to blondes and Bonnie, at the moment is a brunette. Meanwhile, Luke goes to the weight-reducing sanitarium run by Dr. Calonna (Jerry Colonna), hoping to lose some weight in order to get a spot on a radio program sponsored by the maker of a non-fattening food product. Dyeing her hair from brunette to blonde, Bonnie, a fictional character played by a singer with the same name, and her agent, "Death Valley Joe" Frink (Edward Everett Horton), follow Luke to the screwy sanitarium, run like a nightclub and a summer resort by Colonna and his lovely nurse, Miss Jones (Lillian Cornell), who primarily sings and dances. It soon gets broad when Aunt Emma (Renie Riano) shows up... |

![]() IN THE NAVY (Comedy | Musical | Romance) [1 hour 26 minutes] Russ Raymond, America's number one crooner, disappears and joins the Navy under the name Tommy Halstead. Dorothy Roberts, a magazine journalist, is intent on finding out what happened to Russ and she tries everything she can to get a picture of him to prove he's Russ Raymond. Tommy's friends, Pomeroy Watson and Smokey Adams, help him while Pomeroy writes love letters to Patty Andrews. But because Smokey makes Pomeroy lie about himself in the letters, and when Patty comes to the Navy base, she's furious at Pomeroy. When Pomeroy, Smokey, Tommy and the Andrews sisters set sail for Hawaii, Pomeroy discovers there's a tomato in the potato locker, and she's been snapping shots of Tommy the whole trip. Whether Pomeroy's proving that 7 x 13 = 28 - three different ways, having Smokey help him play ship captain for Patty, or falling out of his hammock, it's an Abbott and Costello classic. |

![]() SMILIN' THROUGH (Musical | War | Fantasy | Romance) [1 hour 40 minutes] John Carteret has long been depressed and lonely, because, at his wedding years ago, his bride, Moonyean, was murdered. He accepts into his house Kathleen, the 5 year old orphaned niece of Moonyean, and she quickly grows up to look just like her aunt. Kathleen meets and falls in love with a mysterious stranger from America, Kenneth Wayne. When John hears of this he is furious, and we learn that it was Kenneth's father, Jeremy, who had killed Moonyean years before. John carries his grudge against Jeremy to the new generation, and threatens to ruin his niece's happiness, but he softens in the end. |

![]() BLUES IN THE NIGHT (Crime | Drama | Film-Noir | Music) [1 hour 28 minutes] "Jigger' Lane forms a band that includes singer Ginger 'Character' Powell, wife of the trumpeter Leo Powell, and Nickie Haroyen and Peppi. All of them dedicate themselves to work as a unit and to play 'blues' music. The dedication isn't paying off in money and, while riding the rails in a boxcar, they meet and befriend a gangster named Del Davis. He offers them a job at a New Jersey roadhouse, where Powell falls in love with Kay Grant, a former 'real-good friend' of Davis. But when Powell learns that 'Character' is about to have a baby, he returns to her. "Jigger" tries to make Kay the band's singer and, when this fails, runs off with her. She leaves him with nothing to show for him except a nervous breakdown.Back at the roadhouse, after his recovery, Kay shows up, has a quarrel with Davis, shoots and kills him and plans to take back up with "Jigger", who knows better but just can't help himself. While she is waiting in a car for him, along comes cripple Brad Ames, who she put in that condition, and he gets in and drives the car over a cliff, leaving no survivors in the two-passenger crash. The band is back together at the end, still using boxcars as their transportation, but happy playing the blues. |

![]() BABES ON BROADWAY (Comedy | Musical | Romance) [1 hour 58 minutes] Tommy Williams desperately wants to get to Broadway, but as he is only singing in a spaghetti house for tips he is a long way off. He meets Penny Morris, herself no mean singer, and through her gets the idea to promote a show to send orphaned children on a country holiday. But he is only using the kids to get on himself, which Penny soon realises. With his romance off, an engagement in Philadelphia he can't get to, and, indeed, war in Europe, life can be difficult. |
